Community Garden 2.0

Urban Patch has helped to start the Saint Nicholas Miracle Garden in Harlem.  During Earth Week the group of community members received their approval to turn a vacant city-owned lot into one of the city’s newest Green Thumb sites, and had their first work day cleaning up the garden.

The site is small (like everything in Manhattan) but powerful.  The site was the location of the first of the City’s “miracle garden” program in Manhattan back in the late 1950’s.  Today the garden is being revived and taking advantage of its location to be not only a garden, but a community-oriented space for interaction and learning.  We’ve already raised funds via our ioby campaign and received a grant from Citizens Committee for New York City and were featured in the NY Daily News!
