We are working with Shortridge High School and the Shortridge High School Alumni Association to make improvements to the school to improve its urban environment and environmental education opportunities. With the generous help of volunteers and a grant to the school through Butler University’s Center for Urban Ecology, we will be updating the school’s greenhouse. With the help of the Fall Creek Watershed Partnership we will also be updating the school’s courtyard with new low impact landscaping using the following: rain gardens, rain barrels, permeable paths, native and permaculture plantings.  These plantings can be used as educational gardens for the school to learn bout urban ecology. We expect to have the work completed by summer 2014 in time for the following school year.

Trivia: Famed author Kurt Vonnegut graduated from Shortridge High School in 1940.
